Welcome to Grade 5 where we strive to give EVERY CHILD EVERY CHANCE EVERY DAY!

Thank you for entrusting your children to our care. At Kenridge, we are passionate about educating your children. Our motto for this year is 5G@Kenridge. I feel very privileged to work with a wonderful, energetic and caring group of educators. The Grade 5 team consists of: Stella Badenhorst, Riaan Aldrich, Charles Bennett, Kaeli Eardley, Julie Hechter, Paul Green, Carol Berry and Marian van Laeren. We enjoy getting to know your children and will always strive to do what is best for them. It is for this reason that we support an open door policy between parents and teachers. Should you have a problem, we encourage you to make an appointment with the relevant teacher. Together we shall try to find a solution.
We are very proud of our school and we expect our learners to look neat at all times. Please ensure that your child is dressed correctly. We wear sports clothes on Phys. Ed. days. We do not mix Phys. Ed. clothing with the normal uniform. This means, for example, that the learners may not wear the school jersey with their Phys. Ed. clothes. Boys must have badges on their school shirt pockets. The sports shoes which learners wear to school, must be predominantly white and have white laces. Please ensure that all items are clearly marked with the learner’s name. We aim to teach your children to be responsible for their behaviour and possessions. It is their responsibility to bring the necessary books, togs, etc. to school. Train them to pack their bags the night before. They must use the checklist in their homework diaries to ensure that nothing has been forgotten. This soon becomes routine and removes much stress from the morning rush. At this age, the learners are like little “sponges” and they soak up knowledge (both good and bad) at an amazing rate. With this in mind, I would like to urge you to please control their TV viewing / computer games and even the books that they are reading. Unfortunately, there are many unsuitable programmes on TV which are screened during times that you would think it safe for them to watch! Please have an appropriate bedtime for your child. We consider 20:00 to be a suitable bedtime for a child of their age. They cannot cope with a full day at school if they go to bed late on a regular basis and then become very lethargic and sleepy in class the next day. Any money which is sent to school must please be in a clearly marked envelope. Please write the learner’s name, grade and what the money is for, on the envelope. Always include the correct amount as we do not supply change.
We have one outing during the 1st term when we shall visit Intaka Island at Century City, to learn more about food chains and food webs. There are two outings in the second term, namely the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town and the Dorpsmuseum in Stellenbosch. Our main outing of the year is our SOS camp in Villiersdorp. This takes place at the beginning of the 3rd term. You will be notified closer to the time regarding the costs involved for these activities. All costs will be debited to your school account.
Once again I would like to thank you for your involvement. Together we shall make this an awesome year, one which your child will always have fond memories of. I end with this quote: “Education is what survives when what was learnt has been forgotten.” Together, let’s build kids with character, give EVERY CHILD EVERY CHANCE EVERY DAY and instil within them a love for learning!

Ek sluit af met die volgende aanhaling: “Education is what survives when what was learnt has been forgotten.”
