An electronic drum is a modern, electronic musical instrument, primarily designed to serve as an alternative to an acoustic drum kit. Electronic drums consist of an electronic sound module that produces the synthesized or sampled percussion sounds on a set of ‘pads’, usually constructed in a shape to resemble drums and cymbals.
Like regular drums, the pads are struck by drumsticks and they are played in a similar manner to an acoustic drum kit.
Electronic drums provide more versatility than an acoustic kit. The flexibility of an electronic kit is perfect for a beginner drummer that is still finding their sound.
Classes are presented weekly by a qualified drum teacher. Students are open to participating at the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod every year or to complete the Trinity Rock School examinations.
