PUBLIC SPEAKING:

Public Speaking is a non-paying extracurricular activity offered by Kenridge Primary. It is merely an extension of the cultural arm at our school.

PARTICIPATION:

All Grade Five – Seven learners, who show an interest, are welcome to join the Public Speaking Club. Learners who participate, may not be absent from the club more than three times per term. Special permission to attend fewer meetings may be granted to learners who attend other activities at a provincial or first-team level.

TIMES OF MEETINGS:

This activity is offered during the winter and summer seasons (all year), during the second and third terms in Mrs Preuss’ classroom (U47).

LEARNING ACTIVITIES:

Speakers are trained in the correct manner of speech, i.e. protocol about an audience, elocution, etc. The use of grammatically correct language is encouraged at all times. Learners must always formally prepare speeches and teamwork is recommended. Two teams should always compete during sessions, to train speakers to become creative thinkers.

Training in informal and unprepared speaking is also addressed.

PARENT EVENING:

During the third term, a parent evening is held at the school. Individual speeches are heard.
