WHY SHOULD WE RECYCLE:
- Recycling saves energy and reduces pollution
- Recycling saves water
- Recycling conserves resources
- Recycling saves valuable landfill space
- Recycling saves wildlife habitats
- Recycling saves money
- Recycling helps to protect our environment.
At our school, recycling is not just a side-line event, IT IS AN OCCASION.
A class is on duty every Monday morning, from 07:15 – 07:45, to sort out all of the recycling and to teach our children to place their recycling in the correct igloos.
Every classroom has a black bin in which only paper may be thrown away. The learners empty these on a Monday morning.
At present, we recycle PAPER, GLASS, CANS, FLATTENED CARDBOARD, PLASTIC BOTTLES, POLYSTYRENE, USED COOKING OIL AND MOTOR CAR OIL.
The recycling depot is open daily from 07:00 – 19:00, Monday to Sunday.
THE BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO RECYCLING
Besides the fact that you and your entire family are doing your part for recycling, your Kenridge learner is also getting points for all of the recycling which you are collecting at home and bringing to school. The learners have a points system which is to be recorded in the homework books. Every class has a chance to be the winner and stands a chance to receive an incentive at the end of the term.
POINTS SYSTEM:
2 KG NEWSPAPER – 1 POINT (1 plastic shopping bag full of newspaper is equivalent to 2 kg)
5 MAGAZINES – 1 POINT
5 GLASS BOTTLES – 1 POINT (SMALL OR BIG)
10 CANS – 1 POINT
2 TELEPHONE DIRECTORIES – 1 POINT
1 LITRE USED COOKING OIL – 1 POINT
5 LITRES USED CAR OIL – 10 POINTS
10 PLASTIC MILK / COOLDRINK BOTTLES – 1 POINT
EMPTY CARTRIDGES AND E-WASTE (ELECTRONIC WASTE) MAY BE DELIVERED TO RECEPTION AND WE WILL HAVE THEM COLLECTED.
We have, through the years, purchased several items for the school, with the money raised through our recycling, such as outdoor furniture, shelving, an athletics podium, wheelie bins, trees,
etc.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR BRINGING ALL OF YOUR RECYCLING TO KENRIDGE AND, AS WE ALL KNOW,
“REDUCE – RE-USE – RECYCLE”
